LOTE - French

In Term Two of 2024, we distributed a survey to our school community to find out more about their opinions on our LOTE (Language Other Than English) program here at Sandringham Primary School.

Mandarin has been the LOTE at our school in recent times and we were very keen to obtain feedback to plan for the future direction of the program.  The decision was also informed by Victorian Government Education Policy, local educational options, staff availability, and of course the school community survey data.

The most popular choice selected in the survey was French and, fortunately, we have been able to align the other considerations to be able to implement a LOTE French Program starting in 2025.

We will continue with our Mandarin program until the conclusion of the 2024 school year.

LOTE programs present a range of significant benefits for students, including helping students to develop critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills, inspiring interest in - and respect for - other cultures, contributing to social cohesiveness through better communication and understanding, and teaching students about other peoples, their ideas and ways of thinking.

We are genuinely excited to launch our LOTE French program in 2025 and look forward to bringing you the next update as we immerse ourselves in the culture, language and opportunities of this new program.
